Katia E. Taba, M.D.

Dr. Katia Taba is a board-certified ophthalmologist in both Brazil and the United States and a retina specialist at Retina Group of Florida. Known for her warm, approachable manner and clinical expertise, she provides accurate diagnoses and advanced treatments for retinal conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, vein occlusions, floaters, and flashes. She also offers second opinions and takes the time to ensure each patient feels understood and well cared for.
She earned her medical degree from Santa Casa de São Paulo in 1989 and completed her first ophthalmology residency in 1994. She then pursued advanced vitreoretinal training in the U.S., completing fellowships at USC in Los Angeles, the Vitreoretinal Foundation in Memphis, and a second ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, where she was recognized for her academic excellence.

Dr. Taba spent five years as head of the retina department at LSU Shreveport, where she trained ophthalmology residents in both medical and surgical retina care. During her tenure, she also led efforts to acquire and implement new technology, enhancing the program’s clinical and teaching capabilities.
